getting back into school days

i am getting more used to being in school again, with a new schedule and all. today it was the first official yoga class. i have never taken yoga before and since learning it at school is much more affordable than outside studio. the stretching and breathing is nice and relaxing but also challenging to try and get my body into a pose. i am also taking a class called poetry for poeple, which is a class where we read poetry by people of different backgrounds, which i'm excited about as well, because its a great way for me to read more poems and share my own poems with my classmates.

etsy poster contest

purity

i made this poster for the contest etsy was running. they asked everyone on etsy to make a poster of items found on site, in whatever theme/color we wanted - we were completely free to compose the poster in any way we wanted.. my poster was one of the 60 winning posters the judges selected out of 901 posters that were submitted! i still dont know how they selected the winners, since all the posters i looked at were wonderful.

you can see the poster in a higher resolution here as well as the rest of the winners, honorable mentions & statistics

i am going to miss summer and doing whatever i want. i have been working on various atcs, tags and the skinny book pages for swaps. i find that when i get stuck making things i go back to my journal and just play in it, without worrying about messing up.

vintage paris atcs

vintage paris vintage paris

i made these pretty atcs (artist trading cards) for a swap at atcards.com themed vintage paris. i used silver and blue acrylic paints, then added some sheer, very light and textured handmade paper and then added the effiel tower image to each card.

whimsical oddities skinny book pages

for the background, i used a fake credit card to smooth the paint down onto the watercolor paper. i used gold & purple paints and blended them together. i like how specks of gold show up and how using the side of the credit card created an interesting background. the credit card technique is from lisa vollraths article called credit card painting. i kept my composition pretty simple on these, because the background is really lovely so it was much easier to do a simple collage.
