recent works

sometimes i have to tuck pieces of artwork away. it might be the ones that are frustrating, or turning out 'ugly' or i'm just stuck. sometimes i think my art has a life of it's own and i just bury it away in a box and a few weeks later i pick it up again, with fresh eyes. i spread some gesso over it. cover it up with ephemera. splash some more ink over it. and then it comes out ok. or even really good and i am happy.

airmail window display

some of you know i have an obssession with all things mail related. airmail envelopes, postmarks, postage stamps, love letters, mail boxes. last month, in celebration of valentine's day a local independent bookstore on haight st called the booksmith created a wonderful window filled with airmail envelopes. so i took some quick shots of the window, admiring the layers of artfully arranged tea stained airmail envelopes...

ice cream truck

ice cream truck

this is the ice cream truck parked near my house. when i first walked by it, i was so excited. an ice cream truck! on this street! it made me remember the jingle of the bells of the ice cream truck that used to come by when i was little.

unfortunately this ice cream truck is perpetually empty. the kids in the neighborhood no longer get excited about it, they know the parked truck is just false advertising. but i am always hoping someday someone will buy it and fill it up with lots of yummy sweet treats and travel through the streets of sf. maybe someday...

journey

i scribbled down this quote on this journal page a few weeks ago. it says "Language is the only homeland." from the polish poet Ceslaw Milosz

words like that are so simple and powerful.
